Homemade Toothpaste Recipe

I want to share some of the recipes I use at home and look at all things chemical free so let’s start with homemade toothpaste. Not only do you save a fortune you are not ingesting all the nasty chemicals they add to off the shelf toothpastes.

I have been making my own for some time now and came up with a few different recipes. This one is a very simple and effective recipe I use every day.

We all know the great benefits of coconut oil and bi carbonate of soda. Most of us have the raw ingredients in our pantry and if you don’t maybe it’s a good idea to have them on hand.

You can usually find better quality ingredients at any of the many bulk health food stores around and you only need to buy as much or as little as you need.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup of bicarb soda
  • As much extra virgin coconut oil as you need to turn it into a paste
  • 1 teaspoon of ground Himalayan pink salt
  • 5-6 drops of peppermint essential oil (I recommend using a good quality essential oil as the better the quality the less you will need.

Start with a small ceramic bowl and sieve the bicarb, add the salt, the extra virgin coconut oil, essential oils and mix into a paste. Add more or less bicarb or coconut oil to get the right paste consistency. Once all ingredients are mixed put into your small glass jar and brush away.

You have to get used the salty taste but once you do cleaning your teeth is a breeze. Your mouth feels so clean.

I have also added diatomaceaus earth to help remove plaque and tartar, bentonite clay for remineralizing and activated charcoal to add extra whiteness. I love experimenting with flavours and know that clove taste great if you don’t like peppermint.
